This is the additive contained in a separate reservoir, a mix of iron oxide and cerium oxide, baptised Eolys, which has a catalytic effect when it mixes with soot.
It releases the oxygen at the core of each particle which accelerates combustion while reducing the burning temperature of particles by 100°C, i.e. 450°C. Regeneration does not therefore last more than five minutes and limits fuel overconsumption

Up to November 2002, the life cycle did not exceed 80,000 km. With this limit achieved, a second generation of additives (Eolys 176) pushed the limit up to 120,000 km. In 2003, PSA launched a particulate filter with a honeycomb structure able to store more particles. These days, replacement takes place between 140,000 and 210,000 km depending on the engine.
Needs to be changed when the warning light comes on and when downgraded engine mode is switched to (decreased performance) linked to clogging of the filter.
