MARKET CONTEXT
MARKET CONTEXT
The suspension tie-rod or roll bar are part of the wheel suspension. It is component securing the roll-bar which reduces pitching on winding roads or bends by transmitting pressure to the axle to maintain contact with the ground.
The steering tie-rod is made up of a spherical ball joint screwed onto the steering rack and a threaded connecting tube holding the steering ball joint on the wheel side; it also has a threaded sleeve, enabling its length to be changed by adjusting the wheel alignment.
A ball joint is semi-spherical or conical part housed in a cavity responsible for transmitting a hinged movement enabling the wheels to turn in a symmetrical fashion
CONDITIONS OF REPLACEMENT
CONDITIONS OF REPLACEMENT
The first signs that a suspension tie-rod is not working correctly are:
premature wear of tyres ;
faulty vehicle geometry;
shocker absorbers that are breaking up;
sudden and abrupt driving experience: jerking may be felt;
occurrence of abnormal vibrations,
Replacement of the steering tie-rods results from play, likely to fail in a roadworthiness test. It occurs at the spherical ball joint connected to the steering rod. It can easily be checked by raising the wheel concerned: after chocking the vehicle, position your hands at the front and rear of the wheel and shaking it to detect any play. A special tool is required to replace the steering tie-rod so that it is done to the state of the art. Wheel alignment after this operation is essential.
