    TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The Eurorepar shock absorber range uses twin-tube gas-filled technology, bringing the following advantages*:

    •  faster driving response times
    •  better roadholding
    •  shorter braking distances
    •  constant efficacy

*compared to a hydraulic shock absorber.

    CONDITIONS OF REPLACEMENT

    CONDITIONS OF REPLACEMENT

Shock absorbers form an important link in the vehicle/road interface, and thus carry major safety implications, which motorists must be informed about.

    Worn shock absorbers cause:

    •  longer braking distances (up to 2.5 m at 50 km/h (30 mph), which is the length of a pedestrian crossing)
    •  loss of vehicle control when cornering or under sudden braking
    •  diminished roadholding and comfort
    •  increased driver fatigue

Other vehicle/road interface subsystems, such as brakes, tyres and other suspension components, wear faster when the shock absorbers become less effective

Oil leaks, traces of corrosion and cracks in a shock absorber found during an MOT test are points that will require the vehicle to go through a follow-up inspection.

Shock absorbers should be changed every 80,000 km (50,000 miles). They wear over time, and motorists will often not realize the gradual deterioration.

There are nevertheless warning signs of shock absorber wear:

    •  Noise on poor road surfaces
    •  Vibration in the steering wheel
    •  Vehicle roll, poor roadholding round bends, and sensitivity to side winds
    •  Uneven tyre wear
    •  Instability when braking
